Earlier this week I got on an early Zoom call with some educators, parents and a couple people in a position to understand the Bainbridge Teachers Union position a bit better than the average bear. I had asked if folks would be willing to directly tell me about their experience with the whole, “kids back in school” issue.
They gave me an hour and change. Here is the list of questions I came away with that don't seem to have specific answers. I will be updating this story and filling in the blanks with answers and information as it comes in.

(Please note, the names of staff and parents are being withheld to protect their families, anonymity and possibly their livelihood.)
Why was the metric goalpost for allowing kids back in to school okay to be changed from 75 per 100,000 to 350 per 100,000? Note: 350 per 100,000 is considered "high risk". (The folks I spoke with said that the common answer they receive is that "kids are not spreaders" and that “its a mix between politics and science”.)
Is it legal to require staff to return to school to perform their duties if it means they are risking the lives of anyone else in their home by exposing themselves to mostly unvaccinated humans on a daily basis.
Why aren't teachers being placed higher on the vaccination list?
Where was the initial money for the PPE for staff and why did it magically appear after a GoFundMe was posted in support of local staff not receiving PPE from the Bainbridge Island School District?
Why weren't all students given the same opportunity and access to choices as it pertains to change in programming. It was reported that many parents with an inside tip got access to changing their children's program and then it was shut off before alerting the entire district it was possible. Why was this not opened up District wide?
Will the District go forward with plans to put High Schoolers back in classrooms with reports of several new variants and the recent “pausing” of the return by other local Kitsap School Districts.
Will kids going back into classes hurt them more due to amount of actual learning time as compared to disruption of previous schedule?
As stated above, there is a Bainbridge Island School District Regular School Board Meeting tonight at 5:45 PM. To deliver public comment is email@example.com before 4:00 today. Zoom Meeting Address https://us02web.zoom.us/j/
